Poker is a gambling game in which players bet into a pot. The player with the best hand wins the pot. There are five cards in a poker hand. A straight flush is a five card hand in the same suit. Other types of straights include gutshot and open-ended.
Before the first hand is played, each player is dealt a hand of five cards. Each player has the option of discarding one or more of their cards. Once the discarding is completed, the players can start a new round of betting.
When a player ties, the highest card breaks the tie. If two players tie for the high hand, the high card outside of four of a kind breaks the tie.
If there are three or more ties, the highest card outside of four of a kind wins the prize. Another type of tie occurs if no player has a pair. The player with the best unmatched fifth card wins the prize.
The last round of betting is called a showdown. During this round, the players reveal their hands. Players can choose to discard up to three cards.
If a player raises the stake, the other players must call. If a player folds, the round ends.
In the case of a draw, the pot is divided equally among the remaining players. If no draw occurs, the betting phase ends. The pot is then placed on the table for the next hand.
